Yes! Discord is the easiest way to communicate over voice, video, and text and is required to participate in the tournament. Players are required to Sign-In to Discord approx. 1-Hour, but no later than 45-Minutes prior to the start of the tournament. Discord allows the Tournament Organizer to communicate with players and provides a way for the players to communicate with each other during the game. If you do not already have a discord account you can make one at discord.gg.
ARE THEIR INSTRUCTIONS FOR USING DISCORD?
Participants are encouraged to watch the Discord Explainer Video prior to joining the Discord server.
How is the bracket organized?
After registration closes, registered participants will receive a Welcome Email (one email for each confirmed Qualifier registration) from tournaments@dallasstars.com with information, instructions and link to the Discord server by 12:00 PM (CT) on the day of the Qualifier event. Once players have connected to Discord (1 hour before the tournament start time), the Tournament Organizer will perform the matchmaking process below.
How does matchmaking work?
Tournament Organizer will seed players into a double elimination bracket, meaning players are eliminated from the tournament once they have lost two games. Seeding will be determined by past results where applicable. Combined divisions/brackets or subdivisions may be created based on participation levels. The Tournament Organizer will ping both players. Players will connect to each other using the “Online Versus” mode of NHL 20 and play 1 vs. 1 games with each player controlling a current NHL team. Players can then coordinate with one another through DM to start the match by following the below process:
● Friend each other
● Navigate to "Online Versus".
● Select "Play Online Versus".
● Press L1 or LB to invite friends.
● Find your opponent's gamertag from the list of online friends and invite them.
WHAT IF TECHNICAL ISSUES OCCUR?
In the event of an unintentional disconnect please contact a Tournament Organizer. Matches with unintentional disconnects may be replayed or forfeit at the discretion of the Tournament Organizers. In the event of a no show, issues with internet, or failure to login to Discord in the required timeframe, Player forfeits the match and will be unable to join that day's Qualifier.
WHAT ARE THE OFFICIAL RULES IN CASE OF A TIE?
● NHL overtime rules (5 min, 3 on 3, golden goal then shootout)
CAN THE RESULTS OF THE TOURNAMENT BE COMMUNICATED PUBLICLY?
Tournament Organizer requires that Players not disclose, and refrain from communicating (either privately or publicly via social media or otherwise), all information related to the Tournament without Tournament Organizer's consent and until any information related to the outcome of the applicable match(es) of the Tournament has been made public.
HOW WILL PLAYERS/WINNERS BE NOTIFIED?
